What's the.... Prog Gnosis?

12/09/2007
It's Brothers O. (Mic & Mark's) new band, with drummer extraordinarily Tom Burkett and keyboard vet Randy Slice. The the band plays instrumental music in the grand tradition of progressive rock.

The music is intense and challenging, with unpredictable contrasts of complexity, AND IT'S FUN!

It was recorded live on tape over a series of performances. This ensured that they got the warm analog sound.

"Live from the 13th live floor"

is the name of the new release and is available at the unreasonably low price of $5.55.

I/O news update:

update 12/16/03
i/O has just released a new CD, "Back To Front":
In these strange and wacky times, it’s a warm season’s greetings from INSIDE OUT. The band has decided to give us this intriguing ten song sampler, spun together with delicious little sound bytes for good measure. As of late, they’ve been working on a new album (due in the spring of 2004) and playing occasional gigs through out the year. Performing various songs from their entire body of work, a number of these tunes have taken on a life of their own. They decided why not record ‘em again for the fun of it.
Three of these redoes, “Silly World“, “Even Without” and “I Could Hate The World“ come from the “Wildcat Swami” album, which were all fine in their own right, but very much “studio“ creations. It’s good to hear these originals sounding like they do on stage, rocking hard and thoroughly thought out.
Three other originals come from the “Bibble Babble” album, a collection of inspired, but rough tracks from the early days. “Shine On“, “I Don’t Understand” and “People Change” were also sounding much stronger and tighter at the recent shows and since the microphones were already set up, well, why not lay them down too.
But the foremost reason for booking studio time was to record four of their favorite covers (each member bringing one to the table) as a gift to the fans. Mark chose the Tim Buckley balled “Song Of The Siren”, which was first performed on a 1968 Monkee’s episode. Tom selected Paul McCartney’s 1990 concert opener, “Figure Of
Eight”. Dan picked the Be Bop Deluxe underground classic “Maid In Heaven”. Last but not lost, Mic decided on the title track to Deep Purple’s 1993 album, “The Battle Rages On”.
So get up and dance…or sit back and relax….but whatever you do… .get loose and comfy….and pop in this little piece of plastic….and play it front to back, back to front and inside out!!

* THE FEEDBACK PAYS OFF!
Many of you told us that "Box-Of-Rox" was fantastic, BUT... we had left off one or two essential Inside Out songs. Your wish is our command, we've made things right with this new release called:
HOT MEAT & COOL VEGGIES
Not only does this collection have all those tunes that were missing from "Box-Of-Rox", it has 7 new tunes as well. All of the tracks are either remixed and/or remastered, and are guaranteed to sound super. (see music page for complete track listings.)
And if that's not enough, we've also included a bonus CD which includes a dizzying array of unexpected and thoroughly enticing sonic slabs. (see music page for complete track listings.)

To order HOT MEAT & COOL VEGGIES:
Send $10 (or $7 for owners of "Box-Of-Rox" ) payable to Mark Olsen to:
43033 Osgood Road
Fremont, CA 94539

* We're still rehearsing for live activity. We know it seems like it's been forever, but we've been dealing with colds and flus, and the holiday blues. But now we're rolling again and want to get out there soon. Thanks for your patience.
Hey! If you'd like to witness an Inside Out practice in our studio call 510-656-3313.

* Check the art page for the latest additions and the photo page for new band pix.

* The DVD project has stalled due to lack of focus, we will get back to it soon.

  • Inside Out has finally released the long awaited "Box of Rox" 3 CD set.
It is compilation of the band’s entire career from 1984 to the present, lovingly told with essays, stories, pictures, and songs. All the tunes were chosen by fans, friends, and supporters and is a musical tale of progressive folk rock’s leading band. (As coined by leading rock and roll journalist, Howard DeWitt.)

  • The i/O interview — last month members of Inside Out were interviewed by Santa Cruz journalist Diane Grossett in conjunction with the release of "Box of Rox". This in depth dialogue is a good read that shows the band’s quirky points of view and some eye opening revelations.

  • Check out the latest photos of Inside Out taken March 19, 2001 by photographer Terry Smith.

  • The Inside Out documentary video is now set for release by the year’s end.

  • There are rumors it will surface in the DVD format. Other surprises are to be included with it’s release.
The band is currently rehearsing material for upcoming gigs, which will be announced in the near future.

    The votes are in...
The votes are in and the songs have been chosen for our "best of" CD, as yet untitled (any suggestions?, please e-mail us). We'd love to thank all the friends who so kindly helped us with their votes and opinions. If you'd like to see the results, click here.

2 new CD's have been released by i/O
    1) The Bibble, The Babble, The Booble, Bobble, Beeble - the best of 1983/86 is a collection of our best work from the formative years of the band. Never released before, this stuff is guaranteed to entertain the most cynical listener.

    2) The Anonymous Demos - is an interesting view of our most acclaimed album "The Anonymous", which was the only release where we did demos of all the songs before officially recording them. Presented in reverse order, these versions reveal many differences and are quiet good in there raw way.

Check out these new photos of the band:
    1) Shots from a summer video shoot [click here]
    2) Pixs from the autumn recording sessions [click here]

We've just finished recording 6 new tracks for the upcoming "best of" collection: 4 new tunes and 2 classic i/O songs. These and the legendary ZepMed (we've unearthed a smouldering live performance) will all be included on a bonus disc, free of charge. The slated release date is Tuesday, February 6, 2001.

Our entire back catalog has been remastered and is available on CD now! Even past CD releases (Osgood Road & You Look Too Happy) have been dramatically improved. The original cover artwork has been upgraded while retaining it's original character. Many of the CD's now include bonus tracks. Check the music page for more information.

Mic has released some of his old cartoons for your entertainment. [click here]

The video is still in the works but production has slowed down a bit in lieu of everything else.

    updated: 08/26/00

Coming later this summer... another brand new CD, "Riley's Trousers". This follow up to "Swami" emphasis the harder edge and the unpredictable weirdness of I/O.

The band is toying with doing some live stuff this autumn. Keep them fingers crossed.

A two disc set of our best loved music, tentatively titled "The I/O Anthology" is slated for a pre Xmas release. The choice of songs to be included will be with the help of our fans. If you'd like to vote, e-mail us at www.talk@music-io.com and give us a list of your favorite I/O tunes.

Along with the "Anthology" there's a trippy video documentary of I/O in production.

    updated: 05/08/00

We just played our final covers gig, yipee (many thanks and a big hug to all our friends who supported us playin' the hits)! Now we'll be putting 100% of our musical energy towards original creations.

We are mixing our last few songs for our upcoming spring CD release. We have about 40 songs and will choose the best 12 to 15, with possibly a surprise or two.To be featured is a groundbreaking intermission montage appearing approx. halfway through the CD. It is scientifically designed to rest the listener's weary mind from new idea fatigue.

Later on we shall be releasing a comprehensive anthology CD and video, chronicling our career that in many ways is just getting underway. The collection will include our best stuff, alternate versions and mixes, and cool numbers we never got around to releasing. We plan to promote the new release this spring or summer with a string of live performances. We'll post them here as they are booked.

Oh yeah, on top of all that we're in the midst of scoring a soundtrack for a local filmmaker.

That is all for now, don't forget to bookmark this site and come back to check for updates, changes, and new sounds.

    PEACE, I/O
